At Renaissance we pride ourselves on quality, personalized teaching and service where our students can receive the teachings of yoga as they were originally intended, in the context of the sacred and direct relationship between teacher and student.
Born in Montréal, Nicolas was raised on a tropical island in the Indian Ocean as a child and spent his teenage years in Europe. The experience of living in several very different cultures in the southern and northern hemispheres is reflected in his balanced classes which put a spin on the proverbial East meets West; drawing inspiration from a broad range of influences including the ancient scriptures, modern popular culture, metaphysics, poetry, philosophy and architecture his classes are physically dynamic and invigorating, humorous and infused with a subtle spiritual essence. A teacher in the Ashtanga tradition, he also incorporates elements from other yoga methods as well as the martial arts in his fluid dance-like vinyasa classes which include inspirational music – for the body and for the soul. He lives with his feet in the air, his head on the ground, and the heart somewhere in between.
I received the teachings of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga from my yoga master Darby, who for thirty years studied under the guidance of Pattabhi Jois – the “master” of Ashtanga Yoga. In 2008 – 2010, I studied intensively morning and evening six days a week for a total of 3-4 hours a day of hatha yoga with Darby at the Sattva Yoga Shala, in addition to my other research and development.
I was blessed to have a firsthand relationship with this master and to learn the original form of Ashtanga including the complete breathing techniques, Sanskrit terms, skilled adjustments, deeper meditative practices and in depth anatomy in relationship to hatha yoga.

My sweet mother is one of my greatest inspirations in communication and the art of teaching. I was fortunate to observe and receive from her her tremendous talent and gift in sharing knowledge and her compassion and enthusiasm for all her students continues to inspire me to this day.
I work with a hand-picked team of skilled and experienced professionals. At the appropriate time we may choose to collaborate with them as their specialties are required and to enhance the dynamic of your practice.
